Building a House
May 15, 2017
Building a house was hard. Most people would think it's an easy process but it's not, you have to imagine you are getting hammered through the process. For example we picked our interior colour selection in three hours, granite, tile, hardwood, railing, paint and lights. We had to hope that it looked good while only looking at these small size samples. Another stressful thing is finding out the extra costs after we signed off on final paper work and when our home was being built I seen that the lighting in the back deck was off and the rough in for the bathroom upstairs. It is just something I didn’t notice prior to seeing it actually being semi finished and you would think I would because my job consists of looking for things that are off in the construction field but if you have never done it before it is unbelievable how much you can miss. For that small change, I was penalized $1500 and that was frustrating. I bought a home to have an asset under my name but I do not think that I would ever build with a builder again unless they are custom and we could change things throughout the process.
For everyone looking at buying your home, figure out what is included for the landscaping, I put in an extra $20k for my landscaping alone and that was a cost that not everyone takes into consideration. My neighbour put $40k into his home. At the end of the day we wanted something new and with the warranty.
